What is First Tech Challenge?
The FIRST Tech Challenge is a dynamic robotics competition for students in grades 7-12. In this challenge, teams are tasked with designing, building, and programming a robot to compete in an alliance format. This program provides a hands-on platform that mirrors a real-world engineering environment, pushing teams to innovate within the constraint of an 18-inch cube.

The only Varsity FTC team in our program, the Electra Lions were built upon the legacy of innovation and engineering excellence. Our team is focused on applying the core principles of collaboration and strategic problem-solving to meet the annual challenge. Reaching playoffs as alliance captains in our first ever tournament, we are driven to win and build successful leaders. We are committed to developing our skills and contributing to the spirit of Gracious Professionalism® that defines the FIRST community.
21781 Pyro Lions
The Pyro Lions are our school’s founding FTC team, originally competing under the name Mecha Lions as our Varsity team. In our inaugural season, we established a strong precedent for success, earning the Judge’s Choice Award for our exceptional rookie performance and captaining the finalist alliance. Building on that foundation, our dedication to the engineering process was recognized the following year when we secured 2nd Place for the Think Award, which honors the thoughtful design and documentation behind a team’s robot. Now, the team serves as one of our two Junior Varsity teams, built to train the next generation in robotics principles.
36529 Nova Lions
Founded in 2026 after unprecedented interest in our training program, the Nova Lions were created to perpetuate our successful Junior Varsity track. By splitting the Junior Varsity program across two teams, every member is able to take on more responsibility and ownership, while getting more personalized guidance from the Program Leadership and the mentors. We are excited to introduce our third SPB Robotics FTC team.
